Pilates Equipment

The barrel is an arc that helps support the back and shoulders, neck, hips and thighs, depending on how you use it. It is a great rehabilitative tool for those recovering from stress, tension or injury and it provides a safe surface for deep stretching.

Stability Chair

The Pilates Chair (most commonly known as the Wunda Chair or Stability Chair) is a versatile exercise machine. While many of the exercises are performed seated on top and pressing down on the step/pedal with your feet, others entail lying on the floor, standing straight up, lunging forward or doing push-up like moves with the arms. More than 75 exercises can be performed on the Chair.

Fitness Circle

The Circle can be used in standing, sitting or lying down on your front, back or side to target a variety of upper and lower body muscles.

Therapy Balls

The therapy ball provides an unstable surface, so when you lie, sit or lean on it, you must continually rebalance yourself. These subtle steadying adjustments help isolate and activate the deepest muscle layers in the core. The therapy ball is also referred to as the Swiss Ball, Stability Ball, Gym Ball, and Fit Ball.

Resistance Bands

The Resistance Band is simply a stretchy strip that can add an element of light resistance or assistance to a Pilates workout. This tool is used in other fitness disciplines and rehabilitation techniques, but lends itself particularly well to Pilates as it helps to:

  • Lengthen major muscles
  • Target the upper and lower body
  • Work the core abdominals
  • Improve flexibility
  • Enhance joint mobility
  • Sculpt a strong, streamlined physique

The Reformer

Perhaps the most renowned of all Pilates equipment is the Reformer. With its sophisticated system of springs, straps and pulleys, more than 100 exercises can be performed on this surprisingly versatile apparatus.

Its unique gliding platform allows one to sit, kneel, stand or lie on their front, back or side. The user pushes and pulls off the foot bar or ropes using the arms, legs, wrists and ankles to slide back and forth along the rails in a controlled manner while the tension in the springs gently works the muscles.

How can I benefit from using the Reformer?

The reformer is excellent for all needs, from post rehab patients to athletes. Pilates can be beneficial for virtually all ages, fitness levels and body conditions.
